At Banjara, they have created a menu of both classic and contemporary Indian dishes that use spices more subtly than often found in Indian Cooking. Their dishes have a decidedly sophisticated orientation; they consist of many spices traditionally found in Indian food, but through expert and unique cooking techniques, they are used in much more imaginative combinations.

Dhaka Kathi Roll—Grilled chicken tikka salad wrapped in flat bread
Lal Maas—Spicy lamb, fresh coriander, red chilies, peppercorn and browned onions
Murg Tandoori—Half spring chicken marinated in authentic Indian spices and grilled in the clay oven
Khurus Ke Tukre—Skewered strips of boneless chicken marinated in herbs and spices and grilled in the clay oven
Salan Curry—Choice of lamb or chicken cooked with garlic ginger in jajabor sauce
Achar Ghosht—Hot but not overpowering lamb or chicken cooked with a special Indian pickle
“Banjara in the east village, for succulent tandoori dishes that recall how good clay oven cooking can be […] the tandoori cooked chicken and lamb are superb!”
-New York Times
“The food veers away from the sameness of the neighborhood […] service is unhurried and solicitous.”
-New York Post
Ordered three items. Garlic Naan, Butter chicken, and Shaag Paneer. All three were among the very worst we've ever had. 1) Garlic Naan was undercooked, doughy, and failed to keep it's shape. The condensation within the foil container further decreased the enjoyment of the naan. Have read about this being a problem on Yelp as well. 2) Butter chicken was in a yellow curry, which is fundamentally wrong for this dish (it's always in a thick, rich, tomato-based orange sauce). Curry was runny and rather tasteless, even after we asked for medium spicy. 3) Shaag Paneer: came in the SAME YELLOW CURRY as the poor butter chicken, and was equally low on taste, bland, and thin. Generally very very bad food. Will not order from here again.

One of our favorite indian places - quick and always delicious.

A large amount of money for a small amount of food. I spent $14 on Paneer Chili that had few pieces of paneer. There wasn't even a substantial amount of vegetables; an overwhelming majority of the dish consisted of a mushy, oily sauce. If this had been labeled as an appetizer and sold for $8, I probably would not have had an issue. But after having spent $20 on this and an appetizer, I am still not even close to being satiated. The food is also not that great, a fact made all the more painful by the price I just paid for it.

Great food but expensive

Solid Indian, and not all your typical 6th St. fare - there's a few surprises on this menu, for sure. Try the chicken livers!

This place is fine for dining in, but the take away was burned, dry , and cold.

Food was good, but the portion of the chicken tikka seamed a lot smaller than what you would've gotten had you been dining in at the restaurant.

I love this restaurant.

My favorite Indian Dish is "Butter Chicken". I ate it for the first time 5 years ago and felt in love. Since then, I have tried it in a number of Indian restaurants and always loved it; today was the exception. The food was very expensive, yet very low quality. Sorry Banja...:-(

It's been an hour and I'm still waiting...

Sadly, after an hour and 20 minutes of waiting, we canceled our order. It was our third call; they assured us each time it was on it's way and even admonished us for checking, telling us the delivery person had several stops. Our email confirmation had said 25 - 40 minutes. Disappointed.
